deep的用法
1. 用作形容词，除表示自上而下的“深”度之外，还可以用于引申义，如指声音“深沉”、颜色“深浓”、感情“深厚”、问题“深奥”、性质或程度“深 (入)”等：
The river is not deep；we can walkthrough it. 这河不深，我们可以走过去。
The sea was deep blue. 海呈深蓝色。
The book is deep for me. 这书对我来说太深了。
Hewas deep in work (thought, a book, watching TV). 他专心于工作 (沉思，看书，看电视)。
2. 用作副词，注意它与 deeply 的区别：
(1) 修饰具体的动作，两者常可互换，但 deep 用得更经常：
The doctor asked me to breathe deep [deeply]. 医生叫我做深呼吸。
We shall probe deep [deeply] into the matter. 我们会深入调查这件事。
deeply 除用来修饰一些具体动作与deep同义外，它更多地是用来修饰一些带有感情色彩的动词 (如 hate, dislike, love, admire, hurt, regret等)，而此时一般不用deep：
He deeply hates fish. 他很不喜欢吃鱼。
We deeply regret your misfortune. 我们对你的不幸深表遗憾。
但说来也怪，deeply 虽可修饰love, dislike, 但它却通常不能修饰like或prefer (见夸克等著《英语语法大全》p. 811.
(2) 修饰静止状态、介词短语、表示深夜或用于复合词中等，一般用 deep：
He sat there deep in thought. 他坐在那儿深思。
The meeting continued deep into the night. 会议一直开到深夜。
For some people, smoking is a deep-rooted habit. 对某些人来说，抽烟是一个根深蒂固的习惯。
静止状态有时也有用 deeply 修饰的 (但较少见)：
He was deep (ly) in debt. 他负债累累 (此句中用 deep 可视为形容词)。
(3) 修饰形容词、过去分词等，一般要用 deeply(from www.yywords.com)：
I am deeply grateful to you. 我衷心感谢你。
He was deeply moved by [at]the story. 听了这个故事，他深受感动。
(4) 顺便说一句 deep in the night 与 deep into the night 有差别：
前者表示“在深夜”，而后者表示“到深夜”：
It happened deep in the night. 这事发生在深夜。
They danced deep into the night. 他们跳舞一直跳到深夜。
